Certain limits and exclusions apply to this product. You’ll find full details in the Chubb Travel Insurance Single Trip Policy Wording and Chubb Travel Insurance Annual Multi-Trip Policy Wording. The Summary of Benefits and Exclusions section includes the Summary of Benefits table where you can review the sum insured details for each benefit section.

The cost of your policy is made up of your premium plus any applicable government taxes and charges such as stamp duty. This will all be shown on your Certificate of Insurance. In setting premiums, various factors are taken into consideration, including the type of cover you apply for and the period of cover.

Product Features

You must have a permanent residence in New Zealand, unrestricted right of entry into New Zealand as well as access to long-term medical care in New Zealand and:

  • be an New Zealander resident; or
  • be on a skilled working visa (e.g. a 457 visa), but not a working holiday visa; or
  • have a partner/spouse visa which allows you to stay in New Zealand for at least 2 years; or
  • have a New Zealand passport.

You must at least be eighteen (18) years old when You apply and You must be under 90 years old age for Single Trip and 80 years of age for Annual Multi-Trip.

Single Trip Travel Insurance: You can purchase your travel insurance up to 12 months before your Trip commences.

Annual Multi-Trip Travel Insurance: Cover under your policy will commence on the day you purchase your policy. You can purchase Annual Multi-Trip Travel Insurance up to 30 days in advance and receive immediate cover under Section 13 – Trip Cancellation or Postponement. Alternatively you may wish to consider purchasing a Single Trip Policy.

You can purchase your travel insurance on the day your travel commences, prior to the commencement of your Trip.

General

A minimum excess of $100 applies to all cover where excess in the Summary of Benefits table is Yes except for Electronic Equipment (including mobile phones) which has a minimum excess of $250.  You may be given the option to increase your excess from $100 to $250 or $500. Increasing the excess can reduce the premium.

If you require an extended period of cover, please contact Chubb before the end date of your Policy shown on your Certificate of Insurance to discuss your request.

Each trip covered under the Chubb Travel Insurance Annual Multi-Trip policy may be for a maximum of 30 days only. If you require an extension to this period of cover, please contact Chubb to discuss your request.

You have fourteen (14) days from the date we confirmed, electronically or in writing, that you are covered under your Policy to decide if this insurance meets your needs. You may cancel your Policy simply by advising us in writing within those fourteen (14) days to cancel it. If you do this we will refund any premiums you have paid during this period.

These cooling off rights do not apply if you have commenced the Journey or you have made or you are entitled to make a claim during this period. You will not receive a refund if your policy is cancelled after the 14 day cooling off period.

Yes - the maximum journey period covered is 180 days under the International Plans or 180 days under the Domestic Plan. If you require an extension to this period of cover, please contact Chubb to discuss your request.

Yes - the maximum trip period covered is 30 consecutive days. If you require an extension to this period of cover, please contact Chubb to discuss your request.

No, you do not need to provide a medical certificate to take out this policy. However please be aware that losses arising from pre-existing medical conditions are generally not covered. You must be under 90 years old age for Single Trip and 80 years of age for Annual Multi-Trip.

Baggage and Travel Documents

The cost of obtaining replacement credit cards may be covered plus your personal legal liability arising from their illegal use is covered providing that you comply with all card conditions prior to and after the theft.

No, confiscation or destruction by customs or other authorities is not covered.

We will reimburse you for essential emergency items of clothing and toiletries up to the amount specified in the product/plan you purchase.

Yes - we regard these items as 'personal effects', but you must make sure they are not already insured by the owner - who can claim on their own policy. Subject to terms and conditions and limits.

Item limits vary by plan and type of item. The base per item limit for each plan is $500 Essential, $500 Comprehensive and $1,000 Prestige .

Overseas Medical, Cancellation/Additional Expenses

No - not if your loss arises from a pre-existing medical condition which is not an approved medical condition.

It will depend on the facts of your claim, but we will only cover Cancellation Expenses or Additional Trip Expenses arising from the unforeseeable death of a relative or business partner. Subject to the policy limits, terms, conditions and exclusions.

Yes - subject to the policy limits, terms, conditions and exclusions.

No – there is no cover for any change of plans or disinclination on Your part or that of any other person to travel (including due to Your nervous, anxiety or stress disorders unless certified by a Doctor).

No – there is no cover for losses arising from an employer's request or demand unless you are in the New Zealander armed services or emergency services and your leave is revoked.

Emergency Medical Assistance Overseas

Chubb Assistance provides, free of charge to you, a service which will direct you to medical or hospital care available locally.

Chubb Assistance is a 24 hour emergency help line. In the event of a medical or similar emergency overseas, you simply call (reverse charge) the number shown on the card and Chubb Assistance will assist in locating medical assistance in your area.

Personal Liability

No – The Personal Liability benefit specifically excludes cover for losses arising from the use of mechanically propelled vehicles. Note: We will not consider any liability claim unless our written approval has been given before you become involved in litigation or make any undertaking to pay. The total liability for any claim including legal and other costs is the same amount shown in the Summary of Benefits table for the plan you have selected as shown on your Certificate of Insurance.

Accidental Loss of Life

Yes – The Accidental Loss of Life benefit applicable to children is dependent on the product and level of cover you selected.
